Accessibility Roles and Responsibilities Mapping (ARRM) draft released

W3C have released the first draft of their Accessibility Roles and Responsibilities Mapping (ARRM) document. The ARRM is aimed at assisting teams create more accessible products through providing an approach to definining roles, tasks and responsibilities relating to accessibility within the team from designers to developers.

The document outlines specific responsibilities for various roles in the digital development process, aligning them with accessibility requirements and best practices. 

By integrating accessibility into existing workflows, ARRM provides teams with a methods for managing and implementing accessibility effectively throughout the product and development lifecycles.

Legal action against accessibility overlay company

Accessibility overlay company Userway is being sued by a company in the United States who argues they were misled by the claims made about the functionality and protection provided by the accessibility widget.

Court documents allege that UserWay marketed its widget as a simple solution for achieving compliance with American disability laws and meeting Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). 

The lawsuit alleges that these claims were misleading. The company claims that the widget failed to ensure compliance and, in some instances, worsened website accessibility for users with disability.

Group Note on collaboration tools released

The W3C have also recently released a group note on collaboration tools and accessibility user requirements. This document outlines various accessibility-related user needs and requirements for collaboration tools. Examples include functionality within word processors allowing for co-editing and collaboration as well as tools with annotation capabilities.
